I am Cam-Anh, a Vietnamese designer based in Berlin.
My encounter with art and design was not direct. While studying Business Law at Vietnam National University in Hanoi, I have realized that I enjoyed taking design night courses rather than debating for hours about politics or economics without coming to an ultimate solution. I always want to work on something that truly matters, with a visual impact. Starting with my first full-time job as a Junior Designer in a boutique design studio (Hanoi, 2011), I am gradually finding a way to draw a connection between a rational mindset and an instinctive artistic production. This could be an unusual combination when working in the creative field, but also a challenging and exciting journey for me.
With aim of taking art and design more seriously, I have decided to relocate from my homeland, after ending a full-time senior designer position at an advertising agency in Saigon. I started (again) with an art/ humanitarian internship in India for six months, then to Berlin in summer 2016.
On this site, you can also see my main practice with a focus on typography - the art of exploring visual, verbal and non-verbal language. My interest in typography was perhaps inspired by the chaotic, breathless craziness of Saigon, its combinations of old and new; as well as my six-year-old son, Dưa, learning to write!
Apart from commissioned pieces, some of the typography and photography artworks were exhibited at the Goethe Institute Hanoi, Germany Embassy Hanoi, and Vadodara, India (2016).
I am also taking part in both *foundation class 2018 programme, Weissensee Art Academy Berlin and distance schooling for my BA Interior Architecture & Design (Hons) degree at the University of Hertfordshire, UK.
